Martial arts is said to trace its roots way back to the times of Classical Antiquity, with the development of such disciplines as gladiatorial combat, Greek wrestling, and the Pankration, which was a Greek combat sport introduced into the Greek Olympic Games in 648 B.C. In 450 B.C., the foundations of Shaolin Kung Fu were developed, which promoted the concept that the mind and the body were inseparable. A hand-to-hand combat theory which involved the integrations of "hard" and "soft" fighting techniques was introduced in China at around 5 B.C.
