Watching Taekwondo Competitions for Learning Purposes
There is no straight road to winning competitions in taekwondo, much less with bagging championship belts for this particular martial art. You cannot just overwhelm your opponents all the time by using round kicks alone. Sooner or later, your opponents will catch up on your style and create effective counterstrategies. Taekwondo is an individual form of self-defence and much of your success in the sport will depend on your training and determination.
If you are serious about progressing in this martial art, enrol in a reputable taekwondo school. The quality of a school or club can be gauged by the calibre of its instructors (i.e. if they are grandmasters and successful competitors themselves). A school can also be considered good if it has produced medal-winning athletes throughout the years.
Then again, it is your discipline in training that can catapult you to becoming exceptional. Therefore, create a regular schedule so you can practice and hone your skills. Always stay healthy so you have enough energy and mental alertness during practices and competitions. Furthermore, accumulate as much experience as you can by joining different tournaments.
In addition, watching how others play provides you a great avenue to further master the sport. Even if you are not participating, go to tournament venues and scout the players' styles and techniques. Better yet, bring a video camera to record the games. Make sure that you are bringing a video camera that is powerful enough to capture fast-moving kicks and fists. There are video cameras these days that are capable of recording two different scenes in one go. The latter type is apt when you seek to capture two fights being played simultaneously in one venue. Make use of the recordings later to study different styles that you can use in your own matches.
